Is this player any good chief that the Isles may be taking?

- ses111

I like him a lot. Not sure I'd like to see them take a forward, but he'd be a great pick. I am in no way saying he'll be as good, but think Patrice Bergeron. 2-way/3 zone player, plays in all 3 situations, can play all 3 forward positions.

Jeff Marek of Sportsnet - Mar. 8th: "Had a production dip after the WJC, but has been on fire of late putting up big points in the SHL."

ISS Hockey - Feb. 24th: "Work ethic and consistency elevates him above peers. Does it all. Natural leader."

Mike Morreale NHL.com - Jan. 20th: "An excellent skater with speed and good first-step quickness. He's always on the move and can create scoring chances with his mobility, good hands and grit. His father, Niklas Andersson, played 165 NHL games and now is an amateur scout in Europe for the Los Angeles Kings."

Future Considerations: "A smart, mature, two-way center…good decision-making, leadership qualities and advanced understanding of the game…a true three-zone player…defensively responsible…will drop to block shots or find the open option and get his body in passing lanes…dangerous forechecker who reads the defense and uses an active stick to disrupt…covers up the ice for his teammates on the backcheck and always gives an honest effort…doesn’t commit a lot of mistakes and plays a very calm game while in puck possession"

Dennis Schellenberg Hockey Prospectus - Nov. 9th: "Andersson is a competitive two-way forward who excels at both ends of the ice due to his very high hockey smarts. He understands the game mentally on a high level and makes smart decisions."

Observations:

March 2017 – Lias Andersson is a versatile forward. He has a mature frame, can play a variety of forward positions in a variety of situations. Andersson uses his size and strength to protect the puck and win puck battles at both ends of the ice. He brings energy and compete to every shift and has above average offensive upside as well. He has dominated offensively against his age group, produced offensively at international tournaments and is scoring about half a point per game pace against men in pro hockey in the SHL in his draft year.

Thanks chief! He seems good and a solid pick at 15. I was thinking D with the pick, but I'm fine with best player available.

Berube with an F or incomplete with the way he was handled could work Noel.

I'd still rather see them take Brannstrom, but I wouldn't be the slightest bit upset with Andersson.

I'd say my only concern is that he may not be a huge point producer, but I don't really think that's a huge concern. He could end up being anything from defensive-role bottom-6 player to a really good 2C that can be relied upon to do it all.

I blame Snow for the 3-goalie debacle, not Berube. I would give Snow the F, and give Berube a D. Yeah, Berube sucked, but he was misused for 2 years.

Incomplete would be a more appropriate grade for Berube. Yes, he was bad in nearly every performance, but I would blame that more on management than anything.

It does look like he was set up to fail. I do feel bad for the kid, this could have done serious damage to his career.

I considered an incomplete, but thought he had played enough games to warrant some sort of grade. Plus, ses had already suggested that possibility and didn't want to be seen agreeing with him....

Yeah I was surprised to see him sign for another year when he did. I can't imagine he thought he'd get any sort of playing time having Greiss and Halak on the roster.

Can't give the kid an f, he didn't play for months at a time. How can you expect him to be ready after that? Incomplete is the fair grade, the f should go to snow for that.

Anyone see this?

On Isles and Avs trade rumor...

This has been kicking around for a while now, but I am told the Isles and Tavares really want to land Matt Duchene and could be offering up Hamonic, Halak (half salary) and one of their top offensive prospects. I haven't gotten a name yet, but I was told that he is player who could "step right into the Avs lineup

I know it's ek but what player can step right in and play? Beau? Jhs? Barzal....noooo?

It's Eklund. I wouldn't put too much stock in it.

While I usually agree, the isles were all in on him at deadline so could have some wheels

I agree on Berube. He was put in a very bad spot. I saw that on Duchene. I'd rather not give up Barzal. It's hard to think the Isles will get Duchene now after they could not get him all last year and now more teams will be involved.

If there is anyone that's rooting for Pittsburgh, please make yourself known so you may be appropriately mocked.

Nashville. I have a very good friend that lives down there. His daughter has been going to every home game in the playoffs. A year ago she couldn't have cared less about hockey.

I would think so. It is a little tough seeing Boucher doing so well as a reminder of another coach the Isles could have hired.

Even with the sens ahl team here I don't want a Canadian team to win. Pens to lose in finals

Well I meant in the ECF. I like Getzlaf, but hate Perry. I'm kind of torn.
